Again? or not again!

#1

A: He broke his car.

B: Again?

---------------------------

#2

A: He broke his car.

B: Not again!

All of a sudden, I became confused with usage of 'again' and 'not again'. In the situation, 'He broke his car', I think that both expressions are possible and then, what difference is there between them or only one expression is possible?

What do you native English speakers think?

Thank you so much as usual in advance!

Both responses are fine, but "He broke his car" is not natural English. You might want "he damaged his car" or "he wrecked his car" or "his car broke down" depending on what actually happened.
