Again on been vs. gone

Hello everyone.

Maybe I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but when I read the sentence: (1) 'Have you ever gone to a rock concert?', I think it sounds not correct. (2) 'Have you ever been to a rock concert?' seems the right version to me. The same for (3) "Have you ever gone to France?" Not gone, but been.

Let me briefly explain the context of all this. It's a unit in a book dedicated to the present perfect. They ask you to build questions in the present perfect, using the following words: you / ever / go / to a rock concert ?

I think even if the given verb is go, one should change it to be (been) when one has to build a question likes that. Am I right?

Thank you.

  • "Go" emphasizes the act of going.
  • Also, a rock concert is not a country, and the context matters in this case.

Not exactly. "Go" emphasizes the act of going. Also, a rock concert is not a country, and the context matters in this case. We do "go" to concerts. In fact, there is a word, "concertgoer", that incorporates this idiom. I

If those are the words you are supposed to use, then those are the ones you'll have to use.
