after/when

Hi, could you please briefly explain the difference in meanings when AFTER and WHEN are used:
After the war was over, he resumed his studies at university.
When the war was over, he resumed his studies at university.

Would it be more correct to say:
After the war he resumed his studies at university.
After the victory he resumed his studies at university.

Thanks

I don't see any significant difference (sorry, AS).

When you've finished eating, wash your dishes.
After you've finish

What is we use Past Simple but not Present Perfect, Mister Micawber, like in my sentence?

I created sentences comparing 'when' and 'after'; the verb tenses are irrelevant.

When you finish eating, wash your dishes.
After you finish eating, wash your dishes.

When I finished eating, I washed the dishes.
After I finished eating, I washed the dishes.

Thanks, Mister Micawber. One person here is claiming using "after" in the sentence above is grammatically incorrect (she even cited some grammar book). I was a bit shocked to hear that

snuppelinaAFTER and WHEN
"when" has different shades of meaning. How much it differs from "after" depends on the situation portrayed in the sentence. The first sentence below is factually impossible, for example, while the second one is all right.

Cave men lived in this area when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
