Aftertaste

I know aftertaste is a word but what about after smell.
1This shirt smells good at first but has a bad aftersmell.

2It smells good at first when you take a whiff but if you smell it longer it smells bad. (Does this make sense?) how would you phrase this?
Thank you and happy holidays to all

hi Phikip,
I'm not asking you to use aftersmell. How would you express what I've tried to please?
thanks

You might try: The aroma seems to linger. Other than that, I have no suggestions.
