Hi
What does it mean that

Thanks in advance

File: A column of the chessboard. A specific file can be named either using its position in algebraic notation, a–h, or by using its position in descriptive notation.

If white (one of the two players) controls a range of squares, he can attack the other player's pieces from this strategic position.

It changes from a description of a strategy ploy in chess to a narration of a game that happened in the past.
