after + span of time

I often hear "I'll be back after an hour" and have always considered it wrong for "I'll be back in an hour". Am I right?

But what about this use of "after":
"The tower was about to close for lunch break. The ticket seller was willing to let me up again in the afternoon for free, but it would open after two hours and I had my train to catch."

What about "in two hours"?

This is OK, but I should point out that in the U.S., "in two hours" is the standard form.
