After one point the path sloped upward.

Dear all,

Please see the following sentences and tell me whether they are correct. If incorrect, kindly tell me how to write these ideas in a natural way.

"I was driving along an even path. But after one point the path sloped upward. Then again the path was even for some distance. Then after some distance the path soped downwards."

We don't drive along a path, so I don't know whether to make it "riding along a path", like a bicycle, or "driving along a road", like a car. I'll go for "road".
