After + ing?

Hi, just wanna ask a question if I could..

I wrote this sentence "After divorcing with her husband, Susan decided to....."

My teacher said it was wrong, and I dont know why?

Or, it should be written "After divorced with her husband, Susan decided to...."

But I thought we use ing form after preposition?

Your help will be appreciated, cheers.

After she(subject) had divorced with her husband, susan decided to...
It sounds much better and it is also gramatically correct because of the use in Past Perfect.
Anyway it's only my opinion and I am not an expert. Ask your teacher, it should be correct.
Good Luck with studies!

And I almost forgot, divorce also functions as a noun. Another way to write your sentence is:
After the divorce with her husband, Susan decided to...
Consider this option.

But divorce doesn't always mean divorce with husband or wife. It may also mean seperation from something, doesn't it?

Hi,

Don't worry about it. The context will normally make the meaning very clear.

eg After her divorce, Susan swore never to get married again.

Even sentences like

'After her divorce, Susan went to Australia' are always understood.
