After I read/I have read....

"After I have read that article, my opinion is that...."

"After I read that article, my opinion is that...."

Is it fine to use the present perfect in the time clause? Would it be possible to use past simple as well?

Thanks in advance.

Top answer

Now that I have read that article, my opinion is... After reading that article, my opinion is... After I read that article, my opinion has/was...

  • Now that I have read that article, my opinion is...
  • After reading that article, my opinion is...
  • After I read that article, my opinion has/was...
  • After I read that article, my opinion might be...
  • * Note that I only added the final option to show a future looking possibility, since "read" is conjugated the same in many tenses.

No. Not in that situation. I would do as suggested by the previous poster.

Now that I have read ...

Or, if you want something more literary, which I don't think you want, but it's worth noting this anyway:

Having read ...
