after I eat/have eaten

Hi
"I will text you after I eat."
Is this sentence correct? I don't think so...
Shouldn't it be: "I will text you after I have eaten" ?
Because you text someone after you're done eating, after you have finished with eating.. But my friend says 'after I eat' is correct.

Thanks
LS
