Is there a difference between 'after having' and 'after'?

a) After having received your letter, I decided I must reply

b) After receiving your letter, I decided I must reply

I can't see much difference but the first one emphasizes the time difference between two actions. One more thing, I would add that after dediced.

No difference. You need a full stop/period at the end. You can also leave out after from the first sentence:

Having received your letter, I decided I must reply.
