After adjusting for knowledge of the green?

Hello everybody.

In other words, when faced with the prospect of going over par, it appears that professional golfers work harder to sink their putts . . . and that as a result, they are more likely to do just that. This effect persists after adjusting for knowledge of the green, the precariousness of the position from which the golfer was putting, differences specific to the tournament in which the golfer was playing, and whether golfers experience additional anxiety or overconfidence when shooting for birdie (i.e., one under par) or par putts.

Would you please make the bold part more simple?

What does adjusting for knowledge of the green mean?

Can we say this effect persists after adjusting for knowledge of the green, adjusting for the precariousness..., adjusting difference ....?

I am completely mixed up.

Thanks ??
