After

Hi,

Can someone help me.

'He takes a bath after he goes for a run at 8pm'

'He takes a bath after running at 8pm'

Why do we use the verb+ing after 'after' but in the first one we don't. I know they are different but I just don't know how to explain it simply.

Any help really appreciated,

Cheers!
