Afford with gerund

Hi

Could you please tell me if the verb afford could be used with a gerund--I mean, is this sentence wrong or just odd?

I couldn't afford travelling by air.

Or
I can't afford risking all the money I have.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: Is this line natural English?

Could you please tell me if the verb afford could be used with a gerund?

Mr. Or I can't afford risking all the money I have. It sounds 'off' to me.

  • Mr.
  • Or I can't afford risking all the money I have.
  • It sounds 'off' to me.
  • I'd use the infinitive.
