Afford

Hi! Would you take a glance at this broken sentence and its second half underneath for me once I'm not sure whether after combining it won't be a broken one anymore? (This is an exercise testing matching broken sentence with its appropriate second half.

1) Because she didn't have a car..... (broken sentence)

2) she could afford to go by taxi more often. ( its second half)

Combined sentence: Because she didn't have a car.....she could afford to go by taxi more often.

>> I don't see why it is the good match (answer key) for why the consequence of 'could afford going by taxi more often comes from the reason that she didn't have a car.

As far as I'm concerned the word 'afford' has the meaning of 'without incurring financial difficulties'.

Thank you for your time.

I suppose she didn't have the usual expenses associated with owning a car-- tax, insurance, petrol (gasoline), parking, repairs, etc.
