Affirmation outside the church

Hello

A certain woman who is a psychis says: Growing up in a religious school system, I endured much of this kind of disapproval and discrimination. I felt it necessary to go underground with my own psychic abilities as early as the age of eight or nine. Fortunately I had strong affirmation outside the church. I have had the benefit of three great teachers in my life.

--- I'm not sure what she's trying to say by: I had strong affirmation outside the church.

Maybe it means that outside the church, which didn't tolerate her for her psychic abilities, she received GREAT HELP from someone else? But maybe my interpretation is not specific enough?

Thanks

  • I think that is exactly what she means.
  • My take is that she expresses her gratitute for having met three people who affirmed and supported the development of her psychic abilities.
