What are the differences between the verbs:

1) affect
2) influence

Hi.
Apart from what my friend said, I have the impression that, affect is more physical and influence is more mental or psychological.
For example,
The comercials on TV might influence you and make you buy the product. I am sometimes influenced by the comercials.
But in the other hand, looking directly at the sun, might affect your eyes.
