affect

Hi
Should affect be followed by positively or adversely with subjects that have merits and demerits?

For example Internet affects the learning style of the school children.

I think positively or adversely is necessary here.

And, in the sentence given here, is the intended meaning conveyed to a person who is not aware of the nature of subject?

Human trafficking affects young children from poor families.

"affect" means simply - have an impact on. It can be negative or positive.

If you say that a negative thing e.g. drug trafficking, affects someone, the implication is that it affects them negatively. And vice versa. There need be no ambiguity.

If the thing is neutral, or the context otherwise demands greater clarity, you would need to modify "affect" to describe it positively
