Hi,

Is ees'thetik the phonetic(s) for aesthetic in British English? I found this in some dictionary. Please clarify.

Thanks,

Yes, it is indeed pronounced with a long /i/ sound in British English; but I think the /es/ variant is also very common.

00I was corrected years ago by a prominent art director that the "th" in "aesthetic" should be pronounced with just the "t"....For example, "Ees-t-etic". 02br
00Is the "th" in "aesthetic" pronounced with a "tha" or just a "t"?02br

00Another example would be pronouncing the "THAMES" river. Instead of saying "tha" you pronounce it

0The 'th' part in aesthetic is pronounced awith a fortis fricative /θ/. Thames is pronounced with a normal alveolar /t/, just like Anthony.0100end_ph00>0-
