Speech & Pronunciation

Ae vs e

Well, i used to think that i could handle the difference between "ae" and "e" pretty nicely, that is, until i stumbled upon the following sentence: "to gather together". No matter how many times i pronounce it, it seems that the two phonemes sound the same. I could use some of your help to fix this problem. Thanks in advance.

The way you pronounce "to gather together" sounds fine to me. I detect a difference between the vowels of "gath" and "geth", which I assume is what you are referring to. In earlier part are you trying to differentiate "bad/bed" and "sad/said"?
