Advice on punctuating this sentence

Are both sentences grammatically corrrect? Which sentence is better? Is it the writer's choice? Is there a difference? Thank you!

This is writer's choice. "In a house" would be more usual here. "household members increase in activity" sounds a bit odd to me, and the whole sentence has a slight feel of not having been written by a native speaker.
