Advertizement - advertisement

Hi, is the word advertizement in American English the correct form of the word advertisement in British English? I know that endings -ise in British English change to -ize in AmE. Nevertheless, when I was watching the answers of the English exam in my country, in one exercise only the word advertisement was given. Now I am quite confused because I find AmE more suitable for me. To my knowledge, both forms (AmE and BrE) ought to be accepted.

Thanks!

Hi Zygis

I can only tell you that there are many words in English whose spellings and pronounciation differ from place to place.

But I think 'advertizement' is not used in many parts of the world.

So is it possible to distinguish when to use endings -ize and when -ise?

Thank you.

Unfortunately, not without a dictionary.

And how about suprise (-ize) There are different opinions on the internet. I suppose it is also -ise even in AmE?

Surprise. Yes, with the S, not the Z.
