Adversary vs rival

I have always been confused between these two words. Can someone please explain what is the main difference between them? For example,

Trump and Biden are rivals.

Trump and Biden are adversaries.


Which one is correct? I feel like both are correct. Please help. Thank you.

I'd say Trump and Biden are rivals, though it would not be wrong to say that they are adversaries.
