Adverbs of indefinite time and frequency

I know that adverbs of indefinite time and frequency, such as 'often', go before main verb (with a simple predicate) or after the first aux. verb (with a complex predicate), after a form of be in sentences. However, what happens to 'very often'? Does this also go in the same positions? If not, why not? Thanks!
