Adverbs

The world is far less a mystery than it was a century ago.

Both far and less are adverbs and far is an adverb of intensity (right?) far is describing an adverb(less) what about less, what is it describing?(it must be another adverb, a verb or an adjective, hum?)

another prompt is, whether we can use adverbs after linking verbs. I remember I've read it somewhere but not quite sure about.
