But why a phrasal verb and not a prepositional verb?

Phrasal verb is a relatively new term to me (I had always thought I was being inventive with the term two-word verbs). Either way, it certainly simplifies a lot of things. Here, the phrasal verb consists of two words, and his boss is the direct object.

And how about "prepositional verb" and "phrasal-prepositional verb"? New also?

There are different names for these (verb + proposition) - here is one reference.
