Adverbial Clause in a Newspaper Report
The following sentence was the heading of an article in a local newspaper:
"An officer dies after being knocked down by a car while trying to divert traffic at checkpoint".
I think that the adverbial clause, "while trying...checkpoint", is misplaced. I would have recast the sentence as,
"An officer on traffic duty was knocked down by a car".
