Adverbial Clause

Adverbial Clause - where the clause acts as an adverb

You should go there before the shops open.

Because it began to rain I had to buy an umbrella.

We were quite upset when John came in.

Are these adverbial clauses simply because they add information? Or are there adverbs actually present in the above clauses? Also are there any adverbs above modifying any verbs, adjectives or adverbs? Thanks in advance.
