Adverb versus prepositional phrases

Hi Everyone,

I know...I'm on a 'roll'.

I'm working on prepositional phrases today, and as I did some research, I'm confused by these phrases:

...at the corner
...by the sea
...along the footpath

and so on.

I thought that these are prepositional phrases, but it seems that they're adverbial phrases. What is the difference?

Yes, I have replaced the phrase for both a preposition or an adverb; both make sense depending on the sentence.

How on earth can you tell what type of phrase it is, and why is it so important for students to know this?

Miss confused (again) Emotion: sad

I didn't do any of this during my post grad TESOL Certificate. Then again, it was mainly teaching methods.

Thanks Mr Micawber. I'll start researching some of these for sure.

I'll try and not ask any more questions for at least a day or so, lol.
