Thanks! I agree. Interesting how the favoured position for the adverb isn't necessarily the most common or idiomatic position...

Is that an oxymoron? If you mean "favored by grammarians," they're not doing their job.

In a short sentence, you may even place the adverb at the end:
She is the murderer, surely.
I know that people like to say it modifies the whole sentence, but, let's face it, the verb is the whole sentence.
