Adverb or adjective

Hello everyone.

In the following statement:

"A wanted felon was shot dead yesterday in a fire exchange with the police."

Is dead an adverb, or an adjective?

Thank you.

I probably shouldn't answer this. To my way of thinking it's an adjective. It doesn't really tell in what manner he was shot.

It's like "He drunk the jug dry." "Dry" is an adjective.

I don't really know what the standard answer is.
