Adverb clauses: unexpected outcome (even though)

Dear all,

Is this sentence correct:

"Even though I have been interested in history since high school, I applied for an undergraduate programme in law".

I want to underline the fact that I am still interested in history.

Is there a better way of expressing it?

Thank you!

Anonymous Even though I have been interested in history since high school, I applied for an undergraduate programme in law. Your sentence is correct, but the present perfect could be taken as an indication that your interest has waned. Of course the past perfect would make that impression even stronger.

  • I think the oft quoted rule about the present perfect influencing the present can be misleading.
  • Your choice could depend on whom this is addressed to.
