Adverb

i have read that adverb of manner, place and time comes after the verb.
but in following sentences it is coming before it.

yesterday i had hardly completed my very hard assignment when i was rudely interrupted.
yesterday modifies the verb completed.

gradually everyone reached the top of the mountain.
gradually modifies the verb reached.

just now he remembered his rather important assignment.
now modifies remembered.

why the rule is not being followed in above sentences.

question number 2
which one of the following is correct:
reeta is surely tired from work.
reeta surely is tired from work.

and in both of the above sentences surely(adverb of manner) is coming before the verb tired why?
