Advances vs Approaches

Hi

(A good/gentle man wants to befriend a girl (not in some amorous way) and sends her flowers/gifts and invites her to dinner, etc. She sends the gifts back and declines the dinner invitations, etc)

Can we use the word advances in this situation? How do you find this sentence?

Tina never responded to his advances to her.

Or this?

Tina sabotaged all his approaches to friendship.

Thanks,

Tom

Nah. "Approaches to friendship" is odd. Maybe "all his attempts to befriend her."
