Advance or advanced

Hi teachers,

Which one is correct and why, please?

a) I'll pay her in advance.

b) I'll pay her in advanced.

I agree with nzboy. "Advanced" is used as an adjective. For example, "advanced checks", "advanced loan" or "advanced payments".

"In advance" is correct, because it is the idiom which means beforehand. Advanced is the adjectival form of the verb.
