When I was in school, we learned to write letters with the address placed in the upper right corner of the letter. These days, with the use of email and Microsoft Word, not many people pay attention to these kind of old-fashioned rules of letter writing. So if you want to be traditionally correct, you write your address in the upper right hand corner and the address of the person you're sending the letter to on the left-hand side above your greeting (for business letters).
