Adults and first time use of English (Evi)

Could you please give me some advice about how to teach adults who are dealing with the English language for the first time? I have tried to find some ideas about how to help them learn some basic skills (such as speaking) but I found great difficulty since all the material I found was addressed to young learners and not to adults.
