ADOPTIVE MOTHER = FOSTER-MOTHER?

Dear Teachers,

1. Is "adoptive mother" the same meaning as "foster-mother"? and which one is more common?

2. Is "vacuum cleaner" the same meaning as "hoover" and "carpet-sweeper"? and which one is more common?

Thanks a bunch to Teachers,

Stevenukd.
