These are some examples that I conjured up of possible ways to think of the word approach and adopt.

USFI guess "adopt an approach" or such usages of adopt and approach, are usually used in written English rather than speaking English. Right?
"Spoken" English. That is probably true, but there is nothing to keep you from using them in speech.
