Adjectives ending in "able" (i.e. manageable)

Is there a rule that governs where you drop the "e" (i.e. desire - desirable)? Thanks, Adam

There is no clear-cut recommendation. The general movement, however, seems to be towards dropping the 'e': likable being favoured over likeable, and lovable, movable, sizable, unmistakable, and usable over their respective variants.
