Adjectives

A strange thing happened! I’ve just realized that some dictionaries list the word perseverant, while others don’t. Also, some dictionaries list the word persevering as an adjective. (One dictionary says that “persevering” should be placed before nouns.)

I am soooooooooo confused. To me, the sentence below sounds perfectly natural. And for some reason,” I am persevering” doesn’t sound right to me. Could you help me with this?

I am perseverant.
