Hi AS,

Are you quite sure that the "that" of yours in the "Most investors believe that this venture will be profitable. (That is a relative pronoun, not an adjective)" is a relative pronoun? I think it's a conjunction here.

OP here - The first sentence stumped me a little because my grammar book says that "this, that, these and those" can be used as adjectives, and that's why I selected "that." If you were to say, "Most investors believe that venture will be profitable," then yes, "that" would be considered an adjective. Why in this case would "that" not be considered an adjective?

determiners: most (in most investors), this, the, two, each, one, many, that (in that policy), a, an, another, which

It talks about the articles a, an, and the as words that always modify no

Hi BillJ,

But determiners are called limiting adjectives and there's a reason for that. In my opinion the adjectiveness of the determiners cannot be denied whatsoever.

OP here again - thank you, fellow Anon. That makes a lot more sense. I just wish there weren't so many different terms to describe the same thing, especially in grammar. It makes it REALLY confusing!

That being said, my homework was right. I know in the one sentence I used "that" incorrectly (since in this case it was a conjunction and not an adjective. But, all fixed now.
