Adjectives

1. My helmet is an exact duplicate of a racer's helmet. (Is 'exact' functioning as an adjective here?)

2. My helmet is a duplicate exact of a racer's helmet. (If 'exact' is an adjective, how come I can do place the adjective after 'duplicate'?)
