Adjective words of numb and numbing

Hi teachers,

I understand with the right sets of collocations, numb and numbing can be clearly defined. However my dictionary offers same difference. I took some examples as follows from the dictionary. Would you explain them to me? Thanks.

1. I keep getting a funny numbing sensation in my right foot. (modifying the noun)

2. In addition several patients had trembling and a few developed a tingling, burning or numb sensation in their hands and feet. (modifying the noun)

3. There are five main problems with this chair: I get a numb bum. (modifying the noun)

Sometimes, no difference is intended. However, here are a few comments.

The verb 'to numb' means 'to make numb'.

Hi Clive,

Thank you for helping me with the troubling adjectives. Very useful to me. I'd think the same logical explanation could be applied to other similiar cases.

Thank you so much.
