Adjective or adverb

Hello everybody!
I have a problem with this sentence:
Her father reacted authoritarian and selfish.
Normally, it must be the adverb in both cases, but that sounds odd to me with "authoritarian".
What would you suggest as correct?
Thanks for your help

Hmm. That's horrible.
Try:
Her father acted authoritatively and selfishly.
Her father was authoritarian and acted selfishly.

Might as well go all the way: "behaved selfishly." Wouldn't want anyone to think it was all a pose.
Authoritarian and selfish are a strange combination, come to think of it.

Do you consider "authoritatively" to be a synonym for "authoritarian"?

No. The first is an adverb, and the second is an adjective. It is the best adverb I could find. The meanings of the two words are extremely close, I think.

I do know what they mean, but I don't think they are anything close to being interchangeable. There's a perceived meaning difference.

How about a folksy register then?

Selfish is a adjective so is authoritarian. So " Her father was both authoritarian and selfish." would be very close to the original sentence. If you want adverbs... " Her father reacted both selfishly and in an authoritarian manner." Unfortunately there is no adverb "authoritarianly"
