Please tell me which sounds better.

Hi,
"She needs a great amount of energy to do this work" would be correct.

And if you are talking in context of machines, then "she" would be replaced by "it" and instead of saying "energy", you would say "power", so your sentence becomes:

"It needs a great amount of power to do this work".
