Adjective Difference

Applicants who possess interpersonal skills and strong analytical skills to gather and
analyze information for reports will be especially _______.
(A) prefer
(B) preferred
(C) preferable
(D) preferring

The answer is B but I can't distinguish the difference in meaning between "preferred" and "preferable". I would appreciate it if anyone could explain.

(B) and (C) are both possible. The difference is pretty subtle in this context. I would say that, to me, "preferable" seems a little more "distanced".
