Adjective before a noun vs. adjective after a verb

Hi. Would you say that an adjective that is used before a noun is likely to be more versatile in terms of forms it can assume than an adjective that comes after a verb?

Let us say that there is a hot dog stand behind a house and there is a back door in the house and the stand is against the back door, although not touching it but about a feet away.

I think this is possible.
There is a back-door hot dog stand near the house.

I would be hard-presseed to come up with an example that uses the underlined adjective predicatively.

Hi, Would you say that an adjective that is used before a noun is likely to be more versatile in terms of forms it can assume than an adjective that comes after a verb? Probably, although I'd have to give it some more thought than I have time for here. My first reaction is to wonder what you mean by 'the forms' of an adjective.

  • I'd try to make a list of such forms.
  • Your example uses a noun as an adjective, just as one might say 'I have a computer problem', and obviously you can't say 'I have a problem computer' and convey the same meaning.
