Adjective as noun

Hi. Please help. What does it mean when you have a phrase that has the definite article followed by what looks like an adjective like "prophetic"?

eg,
... do/create "something" through the prophetic.

How about the phrase like "the supernatural"? Thank you in advance.

eg,
He just witnessed the supernatural.
