Adjective

In the sentence, "The first person to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong, the American astronaut." What are the adjectives?

I came up with: first modifies person, and American modifies astronaut.

Yes.

In the grammar I was taught, I'd say that an adjective describes something. To me, that's a simpler idea than modifies.
